Berlin, Germany – a city with 73 Christmas Markets all piled into the last two months of 2019. Many of you would say that that is far too many markets for one city, but I chose to see it as a challenge. How many Christmas Markets could I visit this season?
In order to make each visit a little more fun, my girlfriend and I decided to create a rating system for each market. Our hope is to provide those of you reading this (and in Berlin) with a simple rating so that you can visit only the best.
Our Rating System
We created a rating scale based on the four parts of a Christmas Market that we thought most important: the vibe, the Glühwein (mulled wine), the size of the market, and the size of the crowd.
Vibe
Ba humbug|—————————|HoHoHo
Glühwein
Sicker|—————————|Liquor
Size
Quaint|—————————|Carnival
Crowd
Deserted|—————————|Dense
What to expect
We will be traveling to new markets every week. And for each week I will post an update leading all the way up to Christmas. I’m looking forward to this fun “adventure of the season” and I can tell you, from the markets we’ve seen so far, it’s going to be a blast.
