The Christmas Markets of the City (and Spandau)

On our most ambitious day yet, we took it upon ourselves to visit 6 Christmas Markets in one day. Even with a little bit of rain and the wet cold Germany is known for we had a great time…and could’ve likely reached more.

Advents-Ökomarkt am Kollwitzplatz

Billed as an Eco-friendly market, this market was quaint and not too crowded—likely due to that a rain storm passed through while we were there. Even so, the Glühwein was tasty, and the stalls carried wares from homemade granola to beeswax covers.

Weihnachtsmarkt am Friedrichstraße Bahnhof

In what we expected to be a small, touristy market, we found quite a nice vibe. Once again it wasn’t too crowded but the Glühwein was great and the stalls offered a fair selection of ornaments and food.

Weihnachtsmarkt zwischer Hauptbahnhof und Kanzleramt

I thought this would be a great, big Christmas Market since it was situated right outside of the Berlin central train station. However, as you can see in the photo below, it consisted of just 5 stalls. Not worth it if you ask me.

Spandauer Weihnachtsraum vor dem Spandauer Rathaus

Back here for the second year in a row, I knew what to expect going in. However, it was absolutely packed to the brim with carnival lights and families. Not one for the faint of heart, but a great vibe for families.

Spandauer Weihnachsmarkt

This Christmas Market was connected to the previous one in one long line through all of Altstadt Spandau. With a slightly less hectic crowd and a more laid-back vibe, I would definitely recommend this as one of Berlin’s better markets.

Weihnachsmarkt an der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche

Another great market lies in the west, in the square around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. This is a large, but well managed, market that will not let you down.
